    Overview

The NEET PG counselling process is one of the most important steps for medical graduates who wish to pursue postgraduate courses like MD, MS, or DNB in India. Every year, lakhs of students appear for the NEET PG exam, but securing a seat in a reputed institution depends entirely on how well candidates understand and follow the counselling process.

    Introduction to the Counselling Body

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), functioning under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), is responsible for conducting online counselling for NEET PG seats in India. This includes 50% of All India Quota (AIQ) seats in government medical colleges, 100% seats in Deemed Universities, Central Universities, ESIC, AFMS institutes, and DNB seats.

    What’s New?

One of the major updates for 2025 is that counselling will be held in four rounds: Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 (previously called the mop-up round), and the Stray Vacancy round. Upgradation is allowed till Round 3. Once a candidate takes a seat in Round 3, they cannot resign. Another major change is that OCI candidates (Overseas Citizens of India) will now be treated the same as Indian citizens for UR and NRI seat eligibility.

All admissions and resignations will only be accepted through the online mode. Any offline actions will be considered invalid and could lead to legal consequences for the colleges involved.

    Seat Distribution

    Institutions Participating in Counselling

The NEET PG counselling process includes prestigious Central Universities such as Delhi University (DU), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), and Banaras Hindu University (BHU). Additionally, it covers top Central Institutes like VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital, ABVIMS & RML Hospital, and ESIC Medical Colleges.

DNB (Diplomate of National Board) seats are also offered through counselling, available in both government and private hospitals across India.

The Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) PG teaching institutions are another key part of this counselling process.

Internal Quota for Central Universities and Institutes

Central Universities and Institutes reserve 50% of their PG seats for internal candidates. For instance, only students who have completed their MBBS from Delhi University are eligible to apply under the DU internal quota.

    Reservation Policy

The counselling process strictly adheres to the reservation guidelines set by the central government. This includes seat allocation under the All India Quota (AIQ) and for DNB seats in government hospitals, the MCC NEET PG reservations are as follows-

    • Scheduled Caste (SC)- 15%
    • Scheduled Tribe (ST)- 7.5%
    • Other Backward Class (OBC, Non-Creamy Layer)- 27%
    • Economically Weaker Section (EWS)- 10%
    • Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwD)- 5% horizontal reservation

It is important to note that Deemed Universities do not offer SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD reservations. However, some Deemed Universities offer minority quotas (e.g., Jain or Muslim) based on institutional policies.

    Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for MCC NEET PG counselling 2025, a candidate must-

Payment Scheme for Different Categories Non-Refundable (Fees) - Refundable (Security Deposit)

    Counselling Process and Rounds

    Round 1

Round 1 involves fresh registration, choice filling, and seat allotment. If allotted a seat, the candidate can either join the college or opt for a free exit. Those who do not get a seat can directly proceed to Round 2.

    Round 2

Fresh registrations are permitted in Round 2. Candidates who have already registered but did not receive a seat in Round 1 are not required to register again. Those aiming for an upgrade from Round 1 must report to their allotted institute and confirm their willingness for upgradation. If a candidate is allotted a seat in Round 2 and fails to join, their security deposit will be lost.

    Round 3

This round is also called the mop-up round. Candidates who have not registered earlier must register afresh. Those who were allotted a seat in Round 2 and did not join can also register again. After joining a seat in Round 3, resignation is not allowed under any condition.

    Stray Vacancy Round

The Stray Vacancy round is the final opportunity. Only candidates who are not holding any seat can participate. If a candidate is allotted a seat in this round but fails to join, they will be barred from appearing in NEET PG next year.

    Documents Required

At the time of admission to the allotted institute, candidates must carry the following original documents-

    • NEET PG admit card and rank letter issued by NBE
    • MBBS mark sheets and degree certificate
    • Internship completion certificate (or proof that it will be completed by 31st July, 2025.)
    • Registration certificate from NMC or State Medical Council
    • Date of birth proof (high school certificate or birth certificate)
    • Valid government-issued ID (Aadhaar, PAN card, Passport, etc.)
    • Caste, EWS, or PwD certificate (if applicable)
    • NRI sponsorship documents (if applying under NRI quota)
