Overview
Government Medical College Thrissur (GMCT) is a government medical college in Kerala that was established in 1982 and is the oldest among the state's four government medical colleges. The college idea started in the late 1970s when the Kerala government planned to upgrade medical education and healthcare services in Central Kerala. The college was set up in Mulankunnathukavu, and in less than a decade, it became famous for the quality of education and discipline in the training environment.
Through the years, GMC Thrissur has enlarged its departments, set up modern laboratories, improved their hospital facilities, and patient inflow has continuously increased. Besides, the institution has been a major player in medical research, community health programs, and public health initiatives at the state level.
The medical college is now with Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) and offers MBBS, MD/MS degrees with paramedical courses as well. The college is expected to expand further in super-specialty training and advanced clinical care with new infrastructure projects, strengthened specialty departments, and increased research activities.
