    History

    The Government of India announced the establishment of AIIMS Guwahati under Phase-V of the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana to strengthen healthcare facilities in the North-East. Construction of the permanent campus began after land allocation at Changsari in Kamrup district, around 25 kilometres from Guwahati city.

    The institute commenced academic activities in 2021 with the MBBS programme. Since then, it has steadily expanded its academic departments, hospital services, and research facilities. In 2024, AIIMS Guwahati introduced postgraduate programmes (MD/MS), B.Sc. Nursing, and Ph.D. courses, marking an important milestone in its academic development.
