Introduction
In today's blog, we'll decode the various steps involved in the online counselling process for NEET PG Round 2!
Okay, so Round 2 is almost over. You’ve made your choices, maybe got a seat, and hopefully reported to a college. But MCC isn’t done just yet. Before they start Round 2, they do a final check called the Verification of Joined Candidates, which might sound excessive but is actually the step that ties off all the loose ends.

Key Highlights
| Aspect | Details |
|---|---|
| Official Dates | December 5, 2025 - December 6, 2025 |
| Primary Purpose | To conduct a final reconciliation of data between participating medical colleges and MCC to ensure an accurate national seat matrix before further counselling rounds. |
| Core Activity | Participating institutes verify and submit a final list of candidates who have reported, submitted documents, paid fees, and officially joined. |
| Key Stakeholders & Their Role |
MCC: - Coordinates with institutes - Verifies data & releases Round 2 result - Identifies exact vacant seats Medical Colleges: - Enter accurate data in MCC portal - Confirm joined candidates - Report “No Show” or resignations Candidates: - Mainly a waiting period - Ensure confirmation from the joined college |
| Why It Is Crucial | This verification ensures transparency and prevents errors or fraud. It guarantees that seats shown as vacant for the next round are genuinely empty, finalizing Round 2 officially. |
Candidate Actions & Verification Result
This table outlines what this phase means for you, the candidate, and what happens immediately afterward.
| Your Status after Round 2 Reporting | What This Verification Phase Means for You | The Immediate Outcome (After Dec 6, 2025) |
|---|---|---|
| You Successfully Joined a College (Freeze/Float) | The institute verifies your name in their "Joined Candidates" list sent to MCC. Your seat becomes officially confirmed and locked. |
• Freeze: Your counselling is complete. Wait for orientation. • Float: You stay eligible for an upgrade while keeping your current seat. |
| You Were Allotted a Seat but DID NOT Report | You are marked as a "No Show" or "Not Joined" by the institute. | You lose the allotted seat and your security deposit. You become ineligible for further AIQ/Deemed counselling rounds. |
| You Resigned during Reporting | The college reports your seat as "Vacated" or "Resigned". | Your seat is returned to the vacant pool. You may get a partial refund as per MCC rules. |
| You Are Awaiting the Next Round | MCC uses this verification to calculate the exact number of vacant seats. | MCC will release the official verified seat matrix and schedule for the Mop-Up Round. |

Curious about what the qualifiers even were to participate in this huge process? Well, you're in luck because here they are-
- Have qualified NEET PG Current year, conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE)
- Have completed or are completing their MBBS internship by July 31st, 2025.

So if you meet the internal quota requirements for Central Universities if applying under such categories, then congratulations- you're eligible! Keep in mind, the respective universities decide what the criteria for eligibility should be for internal quotas, not MCC.

Verification Process Explained
Let me break down what actually happens during these two days:
Dec 6th-
Your college admins sit with their lists, checking who’s really there. Did you complete fees? Submit docs? Show up? Or did you just… ghost them? They make a master list. Simple.
Dec 7th Morning
Colleges upload everything to MCC’s portal. Now, we all know how that goes. Portals crash, internet slows—typical website issues. Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly!
Dec 7th Afternoon
MCC matches college data with their own records. Think of it like a matchmaking round—but for students and seats. “Yep, this one’s taken. That one’s free.”
Dec 7th Evening
By evening, MCC knows exactly which seats are empty. Those become the new seats for Round 3. Game on!
Why It Matters
| For | Impact |
|---|---|
| Students Who Joined | This verification officially locks in your admission. Once your college confirms you've joined, your seat is secure for Round 1. |
| Students Who Chose To Upgrade | The accuracy of this data directly affects your upgrade chances in Round 2. Every time a seat vacancy is properly verified, it means a new opportunity to upgrade your seat presents itself to you. |
| Round 2 Candidates | The vacancies identified during this verification become the available seats for Round 2. Inaccurate data means missed opportunities for waiting candidates. |
| The System | This process makes sure the counselling system has followed all rules and policies well. It ensures fairness and transparency for everyone involved. |

Brief Info About Round 3
Once verification wraps up, MCC gets ready for Round 2. Here’s the usual drill:
Fresh seat matrix – Based on real, verified vacancies. It includes any new seats that might have been added
New schedule – Registration, choice filling, all of it.
Upgrade chances – If you took a seat but want a better one, this is your shot. But remember – your current seat remains blocked until you get and accept an upgrade.
Stay tuned for Round 3 updates!

FAQs
What if my college makes a mistake in reporting my joining status?
Colleges are usually careful, but errors can happen. If you suspect an error, contact your college administration immediately. They can correct it during the verification window.
I took admission but want to upgrade. Will I lose my current seat during verification?
No! The verification process actually secures your current seat. If you've opted for an upgrade, your seat remains yours until you get and accept a better one in Round 3.
What happens to seats where students took admission but then left?
These are added to the vacancy pool for Round 3, but the student may face penalties under MCC rules.
