Introduction
Hey there, NEET candidates! So you've survived the registration madness-congratulations! Now we're at what I call the "college wish-list" phase. You know, where you get to choose how you'd love to spend the next few years of your life.
For today's blog, we'll be discussing the Choice Filling/Locking session for Round 1 of the 2025 NEET PG online counselling process that is being conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee, aka MCC. Keep reading for a detailed look at how this round went down for the 9-day span it carried on for!
Important Dates
Okay, let's get the most crucial part out of the way first. Here's when everything went down:
| Event | Start Date | End Date |
|---|---|---|
| Verification of Tentative Seat Matrix by Participating Institutes | Oct 23, 2025 | Oct 23, 2025 |
| Registration / Payment | Oct 17, 2025 | Nov 9, 2025 |
| Choice Filling / Locking | Nov 20, 2025 | Nov 21, 2025 |
| Processing of Seat Allotment | Nov 21, 2025 | Nov 21, 2025 |
| Result | Nov 22, 2025 | Nov 22, 2025 |
| Reporting / Joining | Nov 23, 2025 | Dec 1, 2025 |
| Verification of Joined Candidates’ Data by Institutes, Sharing of Data to MCC | Dec 2, 2025 | Dec 3, 2025 |
See that tiny locking window? Just 8 hours! And yes, it's server time (which is apparently its own mysterious time zone). I learned that the hard way during my own counselling days.

Eligibility Criteria
Now, what are the qualifications one would need to even partake in this whole process?
- Have qualified NEET PG Current year, conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE)
- Have completed or are completing their MBBS internship by July 31st, 2025.
- Possess a valid registration certificate from the National Medical Commission (NMC) or the respective State Medical Council
So if you meet the internal quota requirements for Central Universities if applying under such categories, then congratulations- you're eligible! Keep in mind, the eligibility for internal quotas is defined by the respective universities, not MCC.
How Choice Filling & Locking Works
Okay, let's break this down in as many details as we can so by the time the 5 minutes of you reading this blog are up, you're basically a pro at this NEET thing-
Part One - Choice Filling :
You log into the MCC portal and see this giant list of colleges and courses. Your job is simple: arrange them in order of what you want most. Prioritization is key. Dream college at the top, then your pretty-good options, then your "well, at least it's a seat" choices.
Here's my golden rule: fill as many choices as humanly possible. I don't care if you think you'll never get your 50th choice - just fill it! More choices = better chances.
Part Two - Choice Locking :
This is where it usually gets a little stressful. Between 4 PM and 11:55 PM , you had to click that scary "Lock Choices" button. And yes, you absolutely had to do it. Saving your choices isn't enough - it's like putting items in your shopping cart but never checking out.
Pro tip: Take a screenshot of the confirmation page! Trust me, you'll sleep better knowing you have proof.

Next Steps
Once you locked your choices, you could finally breathe! Your part was done, and it was time for MCC's magic computer to work its algorithm. This is where the system matches your rank with your choices - kind of like a really smart, really stressful dating app for medical seats.
Seat Allotment Process
So what actually happened during these two days (6th-7th Nov 2025)? Well, MCC's computer started with the top-ranked student and gave them their first available choice. Then it moved to the next student, and the next, like the world's most organized but stressful queue.
It considers three things:
- Your NEET PG rank (obviously)
- Your category
- The order of choices you locked
Result Announcement
Drumroll please! November 8th was results day. Time to log in with sweaty palms and see if you got a seat.
If you did get one, you had three options:
- Take it and run to the college
- Take it but try for something better in Round 2
- Say "no thanks" and exit the process
If you didn't get one? Well, there's always Round 2. I know it feels disappointing, but try not to get too discouraged.
Important Instructions
Let me give you the real talk version of important instructions:
- Server time is king: Your watch doesn't matter - only MCC's server clock does
- Locking is forever: No take-backs, no "oops I changed my mind"
- Save everything: Screenshots, confirmation pages, your sanity
- Be realistic: I know we all want AIIMS, but include some safer options too

FAQs
I forgot to lock my choices - what now?
I'm sorry, but if you didn't lock, your choices weren't considered. It's like writing an amazing exam paper but forgetting to submit it.
Can I change my choices after locking?
Nope! That's why they call it locking - it's final. That's also why they give you days to think about it before the locking window opens.
How many choices should I have filled?
All of them! Okay, maybe not literally all, but as many as you reasonably can. Even if you think you'd never go to your last choice, it's better to have a seat than no seat.
